Find Your Own Cup of (for) Tea

I absolutely love art festivals and wandering from booth to booth absorbing the creative vibes emanating from paintings and pottery. Much to my disappointment, I don’t have enough wall space in my townhouse for additional art works. (Although in honor of my seventieth birthday this past summer my husband bought this mixed media treasure for us).

During the fall festival in Winter Park this year, I stumbled upon a booth of whimsical pottery and promptly purchased this gem.

Handmade by the Playful Potter

I realize it may not be every one’s cup of tea (or coffee) but it’s definitely mine. As a 25+ year potter, I have a lot of respect for the process. There are countless steps between throwing a ball of clay on the pottery wheel to removing the glazed piece from the kiln. Twenty-five dollars seemed like a fair price for a handmade piece of art that will bring joy to my mornings and hope for the new day.  The funny, whimsical drawings created by The Playful Potter, elicit a smile from me even when unloading it from the dishwasher. It even has a title- “Love is in the Air”.

I directed a pottery program for underserved youth for eighteen years. I talked incessantly with my kids about the difference between handmade and machine-made wares. No matter how asymmetrical or imperfect, a handmade product beats machine generated any day.

So, BBLB urges you to find your own cup of (for) tea. Even adding one special vessel to your cupboard will bring meaning to your mornings. Dressing up the mundane adds spice to our lives.
