Imagination Will Take You Everywhere

Blogs I write often touch on the topic of creativity. At times I feel like Be Brave. Lose the Beige is on a creativity crusade and I’m an evangelist singing its praises, so convinced am I of the potential life-changing/life affirming capabilities of creativity.I found this Einstein quote to be affirming. After all Albert Einstein is the very essence of logical mathematical intelligence. So often the two are kept separate with logic and language on the left side of the brain, intuition and creativity on the right. I appreciate the cross over in this quote.I had the opportunity to bring my brand of evangelism to Orange TV recently where I was interviewed by Carol Barnes of Active Lifestyles Magazines. (Click here to see the interview) Creativity and its impact on the aging process was the topic of our conversation. More and more studies are confirming creative expression programs can literally reduce pain, the need for medication, and help with balance, thus reducing falls. Arts expression programs foster social connections mitigating loneliness and isolation resulting from the loss of loved ones or poor health.During our interview Carol focused on the name of my blog- Be Brave. Lose the Beige. Her colorful jacket choice reflected her desire that morning to “lose the beige”. Now it’s a fact I’m crazy about colors, all colors, the more the better. But BBLB is more a metaphor than a clarion call for coloring our world. It’s really a way of thinking about and approaching one’s life, even when it comes to issues of aging. How we approach aging joints, our sense of mortality, and caregiving duties can define this next chapter of our lives. Creativity can be a great tool in this phase, helping us to resist expectations often imposed upon us by well meaning friends and relatives. (This is where the brave part of BBLB comes in)So heed the advice of one of the world’s smartest of men and rely on your imaginations and creativity to envision a different way to age.Einstein also said,
"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
